A George III brass mounted ebonised chiming table clock, bell top with ring handle and arched brass dial with gilded ornaments. Silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, secondary dial for strike-silent and pierced steel hands. Six various size bells and large striking bell, repeat function, richly engraved backplate. Signed 'Will. Frodsham, London'

Biography of clockmaker William Frodsham (1728-1807)

William Frodsham was born in 1728 and became the founder of the famous family firm of clockmakers William Frodsham & Son.

Frodsham was made an honorary Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1781 before opening his own retail shop at 12 Kingsgate Street, Red Lion Square, London.

Frodsham was an important maker who may well have acted as a journeyman to Justin Vuilliamy.

A very substantial six pillar movement, striking on nine bells, quarter chiming, quarter repeating with margin engraving to backplate and engraved pendulum bob. With eight inch dial and standing 23”.

A good mahogany London bracket clock. Eight day double fusee, counting the hours on large gong. The backplate engraved with English roses and  pendulum bob with floral engraving .

8” convex enamel dial with Roman numerals.
